Chapter II: The thief in the altar

Después de un par de días en el templo, nuestros héroes decidieron que era un buen momento para seguir su camino, pero cuando se disponían a despedirse el abad, les pidió ayuda. En una pequeña capilla al sur, a unos 5 kilómetros de Onnen habían robado en dos ocasiones en la última semana; podría pensarse que son simples ladrones, pero el problema es que la sacerdotisa responsable de la capilla cierra cuidadosamente cada vez que se va con un hechizo de cerradura, y sin embargo, faltan diversos objetos mágicos y otros valiosos. 

After a couple of days in the temple, our heroes decided that it was a good time to continue on their way, but when they were about to say goodbye, the abbot asked for their help. In a small chapel to the south, about 5 kilometers from Onnen, they had robbed twice in the last week; It might be thought that they are mere thieves, but the problem is that the priestess responsible for the chapel carefully closes each time she leaves with a lock spell, and yet various magical and other valuable items are missing.

Después de haber pernoctado dos días en el templo, pudiendo comer, dormir y recuperarse de sus heridas, Slorm se sentía en obligación de ayudar en aquella investigación, así que decidieron ponerse en camino.

After spending two days in the temple, being able to eat, sleep and recover from his injuries, Slorm felt obliged to help in that investigation, so they decided to set out.

Durante el camino no encontraron nada destacable, por lo que el viaje se desarrolló sin incidentes.

They found nothing remarkable on the way, so the trip was uneventful.

Ante ellos se alzaba la capilla, en la puerta, una sacerdotisa les esperaba para darles acceso.

Antes de entrar decidieron investigar los alrededores sin demasiado éxito, pues no encontraron huellas o señales del lugar por el que los asaltantes habían entrado.

Before entering, they decided to investigate the surroundings without much success, as they found no traces or signs of the place through which the assailants had entered.

Entraron en la capilla, era una pequeña habitación con un altar y diversa imagería religiosa, todo estaba en calma y se respiraba un ambiente monacal. Tras la presentación de respetos la sacerdotisa comenzó a hablar con Viren, mientras los otros dos exploraron la habitación.

They entered the chapel, it was a small room with an altar and various religious images, everything was calm and there was a monastic atmosphere. After paying their respects, the priestess began talking to Viren, while the other two explored the room.

 Tras un par de horas de mover cada objeto de la capilla, empujar cada pared, escuchar cada muro, los aventureros dieron, en un recóndito hueco, con un pequeño hueco en una falsa pared que podía ser atravesada y llevaba a una habitación contigua. El agujero no era mayor de medio metro cuadrado, sólo podría caber un niño pequeño... Landon entró sin problemas, y Viren con cierta ayuda... Slorm tuvo que quitarse la armadura y entró a duras penas... "Espero que no tengamos que salir de aquí con prisas, pues por ahí yo no paso" dijo con sorna, mientras metía la cabeza por el agujero.

After a couple of hours of moving each object in the chapel, pushing each wall, listening to each wall, the adventurers found, in a hidden corner, a small hole in a false wall that could be crossed and led to an adjoining room. The hole was no bigger than half a square meter, it could only fit a small child ... Landon entered without problems, and Viren with some help ... Slorm had to remove his armor and barely entered ... "I hope not Let's have to get out of here in a hurry, because that way I won't pass" he said sarcastically, as he put his head through the hole.

Aquel hueco daba paso a un pequeño túnel que, tras unos metros, se abría en una pequeña y lóbrega habitación. Encendieron sus antorchas y comenzaron a avanzar por diversas habitaciones, hasta que se dieron de bruces con una criatura que se trataba de esconder entre las sombras, hasta que fue iluminado por las antorchas y se dispuso a atacar a los recién llegados.

That hole gave way to a small tunnel that, after a few meters, opened into a small and gloomy room. They lit their torches and began to advance through various rooms, until they came face to face with a creature that was trying to hide in the shadows, until it was illuminated by the torches and prepared to attack the newcomers. 

 Las espadas volaron y la criatura muy rápida saltaba entre los cascotes del suelo evitando los golpes de espada, pero al final, superada en número, murió emitiendo un desgarrador chillido.

The swords flew and the very fast creature leapt between the rubble of the ground avoiding the sword blows, but in the end, outnumbered, it died with a piercing screech.

Los pasillos se extendían dando lugar a pequeñas habitaciones, que llevaban a otros pasillos; aquello parecían los sótanos de un antiguo templo construido años antes que la capilla... Un rato después de que el grupo se parase a descansar, algo rompió el silencio monótono de aquellas catacumbas, unas piedrecitas sonaron al caer y nuestros héroes desenvainaron sus armas en alerta. 

 The corridors were extended giving way to small rooms, which led to other corridors; that seemed the cellars of an ancient temple built years before the chapel ... A while after the group stopped to rest, something broke the monotonous silence of those catacombs, some pebbles sounded as they fell and our heroes drew their weapons in alert.

Un grupo de criaturas, semejantes a la anterior se dejaron ver entre las sombras, iban armadas son herrumbrosos cuchillos y de sus bocas colgaban babas que brillaban a la luz de las antorchas, una señaló al grupo y todas se lanzaron al combate.

A group of creatures, similar to the previous one, were seen in the shadows, they were armed with rusty knives and from their mouths hung slime that shone in the light of the torches, one pointed to the group and they all launched into combat. 

 

Esta vez la lucha fue mucho más intensa, las criaturas aunque débiles y pequeñas mostraban un salvajismo casi animal, sus colmillos se clavaban en las ropas de los guerreros, sus cuchillos, aunque romos, golpeaban las armaduras sin éxito, pero con una ferocidad inusitada...

This time the fight was much more intense, the creatures, although weak and small, showed an almost animal savagery, their fangs digging into the warriors' clothes, their knives, although blunt, hitting the armor without success, but with unusual ferocity. ..

Al final, una a una las criaturas fueron cayendo muertas, excepto una que malherida, consiguió huir del encuentro, Landon trató que alcanzarla con su flecha, pero ambas... la criatura y el proyectil, se perdieron en la oscuridad de la mazmorra.

At the end, one by one the creatures were falling dead, except for one that, badly wounded, managed to flee the encounter, Landon tried to reach her with his arrow, but both ... the creature and the projectile, were lost in the darkness of the dungeon.

Mientras continuaban la marcha, encontraron sendas escaleras que bajaban a niveles más profundos, pero prefirieron mantenerse en aquel piso y explorarlo, buscando una salida al exterior... aquellas criaturas debían haber entrado por algún sitio...

As they continued their march, they found stairs that went down to deeper levels, but they preferred to stay on that floor and explore it, looking for an exit to the outside ... those creatures must have entered from somewhere ...

Cuando llevaban más de tres horas de recorrido, y con las tripas ya empezando a sonarles, se dieron de bruces con un pasillo sin salida. Tras revisar la zona sin éxito, decidieron que bajarían al nivel inferior y si veían que era tan extenso como este, ya regresarían a investigarlo en otro momento, pues estaban cansados y hambrientos.

When they had been traveling for more than three hours, and with their guts already beginning to rumble, they came face to face with a dead-end corridor. After reviewing the area without success, they decided that they would go down to the lower level and if they saw that it was as extensive as this, they would return to investigate it at another time, as they were tired and hungry.

Los eventos se desarrollaron de manera vertiginosa, cuando comenzaron a bajar las escalinatas, vieron ante sí una puerta de madera que parecía en buen estado, Landon se acercó para abrirla, y pudo ver por el resquicio a un grupo de goblins que estaban dando buena cuenta de unos barriles de vino; así que, decidieron entrar por las bravas y deshacerse de aquellos indeseables.

 The events unfolded in a dizzying way, when they began to descend the stairs, they saw before them a wooden door that seemed in good condition, Landon approached to open it, and could see through the gap a group of goblins that were giving a good account of some barrels of wine; so, they decided to enter the brave and get rid of those undesirables.

 

Entraron al asalto en la habitación, Landon y Viren dispararon, mientras Slorm corrió con su mandoble a dos manos alzado directo hacia las criaturas. Una de las criaturas cayó con una piedra incrustada en la cabeza, mientras las otras tres se defendían y trataban de sacar sus armas para defenderse. El combate fue violento y largo, el goblin más grande de los que había, aunque estaba borracho, supo defenderse con valentía, y puso en serios aprietos a Slorm, quien, al final consiguió ensartarlo con su espada, cuando Viren y Landon se unieron a él en el combate cuerpo a cuerpo.

They stormed into the room, Landon and Viren fired, while Slorm ran with his two-handed greatsword raised straight at the creatures. One of the creatures fell with a stone embedded in the head, while the other three defended themselves and tried to draw their weapons to defend themselves. The combat was violent and long, the largest goblin of which there was, although he was drunk, knew how to defend himself with courage, and put Slorm in serious trouble, who, in the end, managed to skewer him with his sword, when Viren and Landon joined him. him in hand-to-hand combat.

Una vez finalizada la sangría, los vencedores dieron buena cuenta del vino especiado que estaban bebiendo los goblins, y tras rebuscar por la zona encontraron una pequeña trampilla que daba al exterior y por la que parece que los goblins entraban y salían robando en la capilla, y usaban aquel lugar de guarida. 

Once the bloodbath was finished, the victors gave a good account of the spiced wine that the goblins were drinking, and after searching the area they found a small hatch that led to the outside and through which it seems that the goblins were stealing in and out of the chapel, and they used that place as a den. 

 

Entre los enseres que había en la habitación, Viren distinguió un libro de sacramentos que le había dicho la sacerdotisa que había desaparecido, así como algunas monedas... Quizá del templo, quizá de otros asaltos.

Among the furnishings in the room, Viren made out a book of sacraments that the missing priestess had told him, as well as some coins ... Perhaps from the temple, perhaps from other raids.

Cuando salieron al exterior de aquel oscuro lugar, la luz les bañó, y les mostró una hermosa vista, con una frondosa arboleda y una loma que subía por encima del laberinto de roca del que acababan de salir. Landon agobiado por la oscuridad y el olor a humedad... aunque Slorm jurase que todo era efecto de ese maldito vino, corrió a la cima de la loma, para en la distancia ver el chapitel de la capilla.

When they came out of that dark place, the light bathed them, and showed them a beautiful view, with a lush grove and a knoll that rose above the rock labyrinth from which they had just emerged. Landon overwhelmed by the darkness and the smell of damp ... although Slorm swore it was all the effect of that damned wine, he ran to the top of the hill, to see in the distance the spire of the chapel.

Unas horas después estaban en la puerta de la capilla, la sacerdotisa les recibió asombrada y les agradeció la devolución de los objetos, así como la ofrenda de monedas que habían encontrado, como muestra de gratitud, la sacerdotisa les dio a cada un vial con un hechizo de sanación, que les ayudaría a recuperarse cuando se encontrasen a las puertas de la muerte.

 A few hours later they were at the door of the chapel, the priestess received them astonished and thanked them for the return of the objects, as well as the offering of coins that they had found, as a token of gratitude, the priestess gave each a vial with a healing spell, which would help them recover when they were on the verge of death.

The Big Bad Goblin played a terrible role in the combat, he couldn't bear Initiative never, for that reason I decided to say that he was drunk and for that reason he fought worst.
